August 2017 - Queer Feminist Art

Edited by Birthe Havmoeller

Dear Reader,

Living in the country side away from all the queer feminist communities, meeting a queer feminist artist in person means a lot to me. This summer I have met: photographer Anja Müller and visual artist Viola Hügerich, both based in Berlin and the Danish photographers Sissle Honoré and Charlotte Haslund-Christensen who are based in Copenhagen. Thanks to all of you for being a part of my network. Thanks for sharing your art projects and ideas with me!

This summer I have heard that the following artists have died: photographer Anna-Stina Treumund (Estonia), performance artist and gender activist Diane Torr (UK) and visual artist and activist Vale Francis Phoenix (Australia). They will be remembered by us as valuable creatives, members of the international queer feminist community.

This month visual artist Ariane Sirota (FR) and art director and performance artist Senith (IT) have contacted me, and I am happy to share their artist statements at Feminine Moments.
