Consisting of several kinds of video – performance, drama, animation, documentary and experimental, this screening includes works from 1995 until to today, allowing you to discover the richness of the archives of the Groupe Intervention Vid\u00e9o (GIV), an independent distributor of works by women, who celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.<\/p>\n

Each work reflects the personal journey of the videographer. They were selected for their individual approach and choice of topics such as mental health (Madness in oven Shares), language and cultural heritage (Rachki), self-representation (The exhibition), the community (Welcome to Africville), immigration (SEWenir), death (the Hangman), dance (Beats).<\/p>\n

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the curator and GIV’s ambassador in Paris kimura byol-nathalie lemoine.<\/p>\n

This presentation is part of a series of activities surrounding the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the GIV. It is made possible through the financial support of the Arts Council of Canada Initiatives Program. kimura byol-nathalie lemoine<\/a> is a (transgender) feminist and conceptual multimedia artist who works on identities (the diaspora, ethnicity, colourism, post-colonialism, immigration, gender) and expreses it through calligraphy, painting, manipulated images, poetry, video and photography. Their work has been exhibited, screened and published internationally and as a curator they aim to develop projects giving voice and visibility to minorities and they continue their activist practice.<\/p>\n

Groupe Intervention Vid\u00e9o (GIV)<\/h2>\n

Founded in 1975 in Monreal, Groupe Intervention Vid\u00e9o (GIV) aims to distribute, disseminate and generate independent videos and it is one of the few centers of the world, dedicated to the development of video works by women. Their collection now includes 1300 titles of work by 330 artists. It reflects a multitude of approaches and strategies, offering views of women from all generations and cultures. Throughout the year GIV has organised events and created projects in collaboration with artists from several disciplines, guest curators, festivals and social organisations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
