Agnes Bernice Martin<\/a> (1912 \u2013 2004) was a Canadian-born American abstract expressionist painter. A pioneer of her time, Agnes Martin never publicly expressed her sexuality, but has been described as a closeted homosexual but her works was included in the landmark exhibition Hide\/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture <\/em>at the National Portrait Gallery, USA (2010) and now the new 2018 biography, Agnes Martin: Pioneer, Painter, Icon,<\/em> uncovers several romantic relationships between Martin and other women, including the dealer Betty Parsons. \nSince her first solo exhibition in 1958 at the Betty Parsons gallery Agnes Martin’s works has been the subject of more than 85 solo shows and two retrospectives. Posthumous her works has also been extensively exhibited including\u00a0 the recent retrospective travelling exhibition Agnes Martin<\/a><\/em>, of her works from the 1950’s through 2004 (organized and exhibited by Tate Modern, London in 2015), which travelled to Germany and the US (LACMA and the Guggenheim) in 2016.<\/p>\n
