Timed with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising in the summer 2019, it is the first major exhibition to examine the impact of the LGBTQ civil-rights movement on the art world. <\/p>\n<p>Curated by Jonathan Weinberg, Tyler Cann and Drew Sawyer the exhibitions include 200 works by openly LGBTQ artists such as Scott Burton, Vaginal Davis, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louise_Fishman\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Louise Fishman<\/a>, Nan Goldin, Lyle Ashton Harris, <a href=\"http:\/\/barbarahammer.com\/\">Barbara Hammer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Holly_Hughes_(performance_artist)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Holly Hughes<\/a>, Greer Lankton, Robert Mapplethorpe, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Catherine_Opie\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Catherine Opie<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joan_Snyder\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Joan Snyder<\/a> and Andy Warhol. Also considered are the practices of straight-identified artists such as Alice Neel, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lynda Benglis, and Kiki Smith in terms of their engagement with the newly emerging queer subculture.<\/p>\n<p>Gonzalo Casals, Executive Director of the Leslie-Lohman Museum says: &#8216;our collaboration with NYU\u2019s Grey Art Gallery allows us to expand the reach of the exhibition\u2019s message beyond our community, as LGBTQ history is New York history.&#8217;<\/p>\n<h2>Exhibition Catalogue<\/h2>\n<p>The exhibition is accompanied by a fully-illustrated 300-page catalogue with essays by more than 20 established and emerging scholars and artists, including Anna Conlan, Andrew Durbin, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harmonyhammond.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Harmony Hammond<\/a>, Richard Meyer, Alpesh Patel, Flavia Rando, Christopher Reed, Chris Vargas, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrvendryes.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Margaret Rose Vendryes<\/a>.
