She has fabricated her glowing works there ever since, from intimate political pieces to mammoth public installations. Lakich also founded the Museum of Neon Art there and still teaches workshops in \u201call things neon\u201d to students from all over the world.<br \/>\nLakich, whose father was in the military, fell in love with neon while traveling across country with her family in the 1950s. \u201cWhen I learned that neon was drawing with light,\u201d she says, \u201cit was like the universe opened up to me.\u201d She was interviewed at her studio on March 27, 2014, for \u201cTales of the American,\u201d a documentary feature about the Downtown L.A.
