Photo: Clayton Porter<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Harmony Hammond in Whitney Biennial 2024: Even Better Than the Real Thing<br \/>\nWhitney Museum of Art<br \/>\n99 Gansevoort Street, New York, NY 10014<br \/>\nOpening March 20, 2024<\/p>\n<p>Alexander Gray Associates is pleased to announce that Harmony Hammond has been selected for inclusion in the Whitney Biennial 2024: <em>Even Better Than the Real Thing<\/em>. The artists and collectives in the latest chapter of the exhibition \u2014 <em>Whitney Biennial 2024: Even Better Than the Real Thing <\/em>\u2014 will follow in the footsteps of hundreds of Biennial artists before them to interpret our current landscape and tell stories, spark discussion, and comment on issues across a variety of media and disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>The 2024 Whitney Biennial is organized by Chrissie Iles, Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Curator and Meg Onli, Curator at Large, with Min Sun Jeon and Beatriz Cifuentes. The performance program is organized by Iles and Onli, with guest curator Taja Cheek. The film program is organized by Iles and Onli, with guest curators Korakrit Arunanondchai, asinnajaq, Greg de Cuir Jr, and Zackary Drucker.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.harmonyhammond.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harmony Hammond<\/a> (b.1944) is an artist, writer, and curator. A leading figure in the development of the feminist art movement in New York in the early 1970s, she attended the University of Minnesota from 1963\u201367 before moving to New York in 1969. She was a co-founder of A.I.R., the first women\u2019s cooperative art gallery in New York (1972) and Heresies: A Feminist Publication on Art &amp; Politics (1976). Since 1984, Hammond has lived and worked in northern New Mexico, teaching at the University of Arizona, Tucson, from 1989\u20132006. Hammond\u2019s earliest feminist work combined gender politics with post-minimal concerns of materials and process, frequently occupying a space between painting and sculpture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Harmony Hammond in Whitney Biennial 2024: Even Better Than the Real Thing at the Whitney Museum of Art, New York.
