Artist’s Statement<\/h2>\n

Francesca Alaimo<\/a>: I am a self-taught visual artist who creates interventions on paper and canvas through manipulation and transformation of materials. I use oils, pastels, acrylics, prints, stencils or frottage, then proceed to “undo” my works using melted wax and ripping off the surface, challenging the idea of perfection.<\/p>\n

My work speaks of flaws and imperfections; of queer identity, dissociation, dysphoria, belonging and existentialism. It explores shame, visibility, vulnerability and courage. As a queer non-binary female masculine of centre artist, I portray my recurring struggle with, and acceptance of, my own body, turning my feminine drape inside out. I paint my journey from one body to another, from one socially constructed identity to a deeper truer one: from a multilayered, coming out body; to a defiant, self-affirming, unapologetic figure; to a softer, self-loving, vulnerable self.<\/p>\n

I started my art practice in 2020 with the hope to inspire and empower others. I was selected for the Discerning Eye 2022 and 2025, and for the John Ruskin Prize 2023, as well as the inaugural Soho Open 2025. My work has been published in a variety of online and printed art magazines.<\/p>\n

Exhibitions in London<\/h2>\n

I am thrilled to announce that I have been selected for the following shows:<\/p>\n

The Soho Open at Great Pulteney Street gallery, London W1F 9NS, which will open 5th 23rd November 2025.
\nI will be at the gallery on the 5th from 16:00 and I hope to see you there!<\/p>\n

The Discerning Eye at the Mall galleries, The Mall, London, SW1Y 5AS, which will run 14th – 23rd November 2025. The Discerning Eye will not have a PV, but I will be attending on 14th November from 3:30pm until closing time at 5pm.<\/p>\n

My work is also currently showing in The F Word exhibition at the Firepit gallery, Upper Riverside, 10 Cutter Ln, London SE10 0XX.<\/p>\n
