Irish designer and bisexual Eileen Gray (1878-1976) has designed furniture, rugs and lacquered screens, which now sells for millions of Euros. She was post modern before the word was coined. She worked together with weaver and lesbian Evely Wyld (1882-1973) for 17 years and became lovers with Marisa Damia (1892-1978) in Paris. Why they only stayed together for a few years is not known, but most good thing comes to an end… and Eileens great gift to the world is her amazing chairs and tables.<\/p>\n

She is unfortunately\u00a0virtually forgotten in Ireland and her childhood home has not been turned into a museum.<\/p>\n

Eileen Gray’s Villa Will Be Turned Into a Museum in France<\/h2>\n

Her home remarkable modernist villa called ‘E-1027’, which she build in the late 1920’ies with Jean Badovici on the southern coast of France in Roquebrune-Cap Martin near Monarco had fallen in total disrepairby 1998, when it was rediscovered and it\u00a0is now being\u00a0restored. Once the house is fully restored and refurbished with copies of its original furniture and decor, it will be maintained as a public museum with an onsite study and exhibition center for architecture and design in conjunction with the Corbusier foundation.
