\u2018Chosen Family Portraits\u2019 is a community-based art queer project commissioned during last years Vancouver Queer Film Festival with Artists-in-Residence Sarah Race<\/a> and Sarah Buchanan. The Vancouver art project is presented\u00a0this summer\u00a0 – July 21 \u2013 August 21 2011 – as a series of lamp-post installations that include a \u2018Chosen Family Portrait\u2019 image and\u00a0personal quote from the featured family\u2019s testimonial.<\/p>\n

\u201cEspecially within the queer community where people may have been rejected, or you don\u2019t have always the ability to construct the sort of traditional family\u2026 it\u2019s interesting to see how people come up with ways to meet the needs that the family traditionally needs.
