The Woman’s Building was a renown non-profit arts and education Centre\u00a0located in Los Angeles, Calfornia, USA. The Woman’s Building was open from 1973 until 1991. It served as a venue for the women’s movement and focused on feminist art. The Woman’s Building was funded by artist Judy Chicago, graphic designer Sheila Lavant de Bretteville and lesbian art historian Arlene Raven. It was a vibrant place. It\u00a0set of an explosion of art making and art analysis, which has set it’s traces on the way the art world think feminism and art made by women\u00a0today.<\/p>\n
The exhibtion “Doin\u2019 It in Public: Feminism and Art at the Woman\u2019s Building,” Oct. 1, 2010 – Jan. 28, 2012 documents the contributions of the Woman’s Building through exhibition and two books From Site to Vision: the Woman\u2019s Building in Contemporary Culture<\/em> and Doin\u2019 It in Public Feminism and Art at the Woman\u2019s Building<\/em>. The exhibition is organized by the Ben Maltz Gallery at Otis College of Art and Design.<\/p>\n Doin\u2019 It in Public: Feminism and Art at the Woman\u2019s Building, Oct. 1, 2010 – Jan. 28, 2012 Opening Reception Alongside the exhibtion a big herstory project has been launched. Women artists, who were\u00a0working at\u00a0the Woman’s Building are invited to share their oral stories about their work and projects. Some of key artists have already shared their stories about the amazingly open and creative feminist environment, which they experienced at the Women’s Building.<\/p>\n A number of lesbian artists\u00a0and feminists\u00a0were also recieved into the community at the Women’s Building, among them American author and artist Terry Wolverton, who spent thirteen years working and creating at the Woman’s Building where, she was\u00a0producing performance and literary art, and the Lesbian Art Project in 1978.
