A photographer since the mid-1980s, she has been well known since her work appeared in documenta IX in 1992. In 1995 she had an exhibition called <em>Strange Fruit (for David)<\/em>, inspired by the 1992 death of her friend, artist David Wojnarowicz from AIDS, as well as a trip to India. In 1996 Zoe created the <em>Fae Richards Archive<\/em>, a collection of photographs of a fictional 1930s actress for Cheryl Dunye&#8217;s queer film <em>The Watermelon Woman<\/em>. In her art project <em>Analogue<\/em>, 1998 &#8211; 2007, Zoe addresses what has been lost photographing the failing storefronts at her own neighborhood, the Lower East Side of New York City.
