Feminine Moments' newsletter

November 2017

Edited by Birthe Havmoeller

Dear Reader,

Last week I celebrated Feminine Moments 14. anniversary. The autumn is a good time of the year to go in depth with things and I have been tinkering with the Feminine Moment's bibliography of art books by lesbian, bisexual and queer feminist artists, giving it a new format. I love new format as it is now much easier for me to spot the artists' whose books I have not yet added to the list. Hopefully this bibliography will be usefull for researchers, teachers and art students.

Maura Reilly asks What Is Curatorial Activism? in her article on Artnews.com (11/07/17) and she writes,'“Curatorial Activism” is a term I use to designate the practice of organizing art exhibitions with the principle aim of ensuring that certain constituencies of artists are no longer ghettoized or excluded from the master narratives of art.' - Maura's aim is to help the art world and the museums to change and be more inclusive and include women, black and LGBTQ artists in their programmes and collections. Her new book Curatorial Activism: Towards an Ethics of Curating will be published next year. (It can be preordered now.) Learn more about Maura's ideas and research in the video below.

Featured artist at Feminine Moments this month is German painter and queer feminist Martina Minette Dreier with two articles. Thanks Minette, for sharing your artist statements, art projects, images and ideas with us.
