Feminine Moments' newsletter - April/May 2019

Spring issue

Edited by Birthe Havmoeller

Dear Reader,

I have created a list (below) with the festival dates of some of the queer arts festivals taking place in the summer of 2019 in Europe, Canada and USA.

June 6-8, 2019. Strangelove - a Queer Festival, Antwerp, Belgium.
June 7-23, 2019. Thessaloniki Queer Arts Festival 2019, Thessaloniki. Greece.
June 2019. National Queer Arts Festival, California, USA.
June 17-28, 2019. QAF 2019, Vancouver, Canada.
July 8-21, 2019. Fresh Fruit Festival of LGBTQ Art, New York, USA.
August 5-11, 2019. Antwerp Queer Arts Festival, Antwerp, Belgium.

The big theme for many of the American visual art exhibition organisers this summer is the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Some American curators focus on works by the artists of the first decade(s) of the new LGBT movement, other curators look at how the queer artists and the LGBTQ cultures changed the (art) world and history forever; and they are presenting contemporary art works by LGBT and queer-identified artists. The celebration of Stonewall has not yet hit the European art world, but I am sure there will be lots of queer feminist art to see in Europe this summer. More about this in the June issue.
