“Meet the Artist” – Barbara Levine and Paige Ramey Presenting the PhotoCircus (2024)

Video (1:17:43): Artists, collectors and married couple Barbara Levine and Paige Ramey are presenting phototographic objects from their newest collection project, PhotoCircus. In person and hands-on, they unveil a century of photographic transformations, sharing everything from personalized photo jewelry and sculptural photo-objects to hand-altered photos and even comic books.

Barbara Levine and Paige Ramey are artists and collectors specializing in vernacular photography. They are known for building offbeat collections and using them as the foundation of their artistic practice which includes books, archive projects, workshops, and exhibitions. Their collections have been recognized and acquired by prestigious institutions such as the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the International Center of Photography in New York. They are the authors of eight books including their most recent, Caption This: A photographic collection of amusing comments, snarky asides, and romantic admissions (2023, Princeton Architectural Press). They run Project B, an archive and collaborative curatorial venture and their newest collection project, PhotoCircus, focuses on photographic objects. Levine has a background in photography and was the former director of exhibitions at The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Ramey was the New Media and Preservation Programs director at the Bay Area Video Coalition.
