Walking: Holding

It is the Glasgow based, British performance artist Rosana Cade, who is the author of the performance Walking: Holding. In 2011 Rosana received the Athena award via New Moves International for Walking: Holding, and the performance has since then been a part of several festivals in the UK and abroad. The performance is now in Copenhagen a part of International Performance Art Festival April 20-24, 2016. The festival takes place at Warehouse9, a queer venue in Copenhagen.

Walking: Holding takes you on through the Copenhagen district of Vesterbro. Along the way, a number of strangers from the local area come to hold your hand and accompany you on your way. Everyone is different in terms of age, gender, appearance and background, and they all have their own individual story to tell. This makes the performance both a unique and in many ways challenging experience because it quite literally gives you, the audience, the opportunity to “walk in someone else’s shoes.”

Although Rosana’s performance pieces varies in terms of shape and theme, they are all firmly rooted in a queer discourse and straddles live art and activism.
