Anna Bonsink and Giulia Calvi on Queering Nordic Modernism (2022)
Video (7:32): The AKO Curatorial Award 2021 winners, Anna Bonsink and Giulia Calvi, talk about their debut as curators in Kunstsilo’s virtual showroom. They curated the online exhibition In Plain Sight: Queering Nordic Modernism.
Queering Nordic Modernism celebrates queer art and culture, and shines a spotlight on the rich diversity and complexity of Nordic modernism. It explores sexuality and gender, while challenging our understanding of masculinity and femininity, social structures and the performativity of gender roles. With Queering Nordic Modernism, Bonsink and Calvi shows that queer artworks have always been part of the narrative of modernism, and take the viewer on a journey into our past that tells a different story than the one we are familiar with.
