“Carolyn on the Horse – it is one of the most beautiful images in this return to nature of these new naturalists, a bit like … Rousseau or Thoreau. In one photo, wonderfully simple and effective, she talks about everything that has changed at that time. A photo that has the grace of freedom.”
– Bernard Plossu, 2026 – Text from Dreams from America

Why photograph nudes?
“Because they have always been beautiful, and one summer morning, it pleased me.”
Études de nu, Paris, 1930.
This quote from Germaine Krull (1897-1985), a committed witness of the thirties, is a good introduction to the work of Renée Jacobs. Her nudes are like pearly clouds that appear and then fade into the sky, naturally, like secret messages. With each nude, Renée Jacobs invents her freedom, reveals her desires, and claims her sexuality. One can also read in the subtext an intimate history of her photography that joins the daring women of the Belle Époque, Kiki de Montparnasse and other vagabonds ready to outwit the lens. – Brigitte Ollier from the introduction to Dreams from America
One of the most renowned photographers of the female nude, Jacobs has twice been awarded the prestigious International Photography Award (Lucies). Her previous books POLAROIDS and PARIS (both from Galerie Vevais) are sold-out photo-eye #1 bestsellers and Rêves de Femmes (Editions Bessard) was a photo-eye Book of The Year selection for 2014. In addition to her own monographs, her work has been featured in countless exhibits, magazines and anthologies around the world in places such as Brussels, Tokyo, Bangkok, LA, New York, Milan, Paris and many others.
