The shortfilm by John Wells is about queer feminist photographer Laurie Toby Edison. Filmed in Kyoto and Osaka Japan in August, 2001. Laurie Toby Edison speaks with Rebecca Jennison about her creative practice in conjunction with the exhibition “Meditations on the Body” at the Osaka National Museum of Art in Japan, 2001.

Laurie Toby Edison was born in New York City. She is now based in San Francisco. She became involved in feminism in the 1970s and later in the Fat Acceptance/Size movement working with Debbie Notkin. The Women En Large project came out of that — a book, gallery exhibitions around the world which took her around the world. Laurie has published two fine art photography books:
