Art Herstory: Tamara de Lempicka

I have been looking at the videos and slideshows about Polish artist Tamara de Lempicka (1898-1980) at Youtube. Her famous portraits from 1920 to 1940 can be located within the French art deco school are very popular. – Her later work touches on other traditions, including Surrealism and still life. Lots of people presents her works at Youtube, but the only video clip which caught really my attention is the one below of the auction of one of her paintings in 2009.

Portrait de Madame M. by Tamara de Lempicka set a new world auction record for the artist when it sold for $6,130,500 at Christie’s.

If you don’t know the story about the life of bisexual painter Tamara de Lempicka I would suggest that you read the article ‘Lempicka, Tamara de (1898?-1980)’ at www.glbtq.com – an encyclopedia of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, & queer culture.
