Parallel Lives: Marlow Moss & Claude Cahun (2014)

Marlow Moss & Claude Cahun, June 6 – September 14, 2014 at Leeds Art Gallery.

Video (5:50): ‘Parallel Lives: Marlow Moss & Claude Cahun at Leeds Art Gallery’, produced for Art in Yorkshire’s 2014 programme, the video takes a look behind the scenes during the installation of two linked exhibitions at Leeds Art Gallery. Curators Sarah Brown and Dr Lucy Howarth talk about the work of Marlow Moss, one of Britain’s most significant Constructivist artists and the self portraits of French photographer and writer Claude Cahun (born Lucy Renée Mathilde Schwob) who moved from Paris to Jersey in the late 1930s. In the video the curators are musing about why Marlow Moss (born Marjorie Jewel Moss) looks destinctively masculine and is always portrayed in a masculine attire.
