Queer New York International 2013

The 2. Queer New York International arts festival will take place from October 22 – November 2, 2013.

Queer New York International (QNYI) is a performing and visual arts festival. The first QNYI took place in 2012. The goal of the festival is to create an artistic context that will respond to a process of systematic narrowing of the very idea of what queer (in) art is.

Re-thinking Queer Art

The first festival presented a programme of queer male artists only, but I hope that they will change this curatorial strategy. They write at the festival site (december 2012):

We keep strong on our idea of challenging and re-thinking the many meanings of “queer” in the arts. We are preparing an exciting international program. In 2013 we are welcoming the participation of local, New York based artistic, activist and academic community and invite everyone to please get in touch with us if you have ideas, wishes, dreams that you feel could be developed together with QNYI festival. And if you wish to support the festival in any way.

The festival organizers are: Zvonimir Dobrović – Artistic director, André von Ah – Artistic co-Director, Adriana Dobrović – Executive Producer, Ana Mari de Quesada – Production Manage, and Jay Wegman – Abrons Arts Center. You can email them at: andre@queerny.org
