This is / This is Not a Queer Feminist Film

Video (1:03:27): A discussion reflecting on Je tu il elle (1974), Chantal Akerman’s most explicitly queer film. After a short introduction in French the event continues in English.

The conversation is with Elisabeth Lebovici (art historian and art critic) and Jessica Gysel (editor, writer and organizer) – in the context of the integral Chantal Akerman retrospective that took place between March and July 2024 at the Royal Film Archive of Belgium (CINEMATEK) – was organized in collaboration with the Fondation Chantal Akerman.

Chantal Anne Akerman (1950-2015)

Chantal Anne Akerman was a Belgian film director, screenwriter, artist, and film professor at the City College of New York. She gave lesbian women defined voices with her work, such as Je Tu Il Elle, a film that features one of the longest lesbian sex scenes in cinema history.
